The objective of this innovative project is to transform the manure of 1,600 cows into electricity. The result? A completely self-sustainable operation.

The Emerald Dairy Farm is located in Emerald City, Wisconsin, USA. The process goes like this: first manure is collected; one part of the methane is used to generate electricity, another part is kept in tanks that are sold for domestic use; and the last part is simply burned and transformed into carbon, which is 21 times less harmful than methane. This flame also warms a boiler that provides hot water for daily operation.

The remaining solids from the process are sold as plant fertilize while the process reduces underground water pollution and bad odors in the area. Which means that at the very end everything is well spent, waste is minimized and life is good.
